Gunnar Paterson returned home to Eddystone early Sunday morning, December 21, with an escort comprised of Philadelphia and Eddystone police officers and members of the service support organizations, A Hero’s Welcome and Warrior’s Watch. The 2:00 am parade home consisted of approximately 30 cars, five motorcycles and four police cruisers.
After an 8-1/2 month tour of duty in Afghanistan, the 20-year-old Army specialist is looking forward to some R&R and mom’s home cooking over the holidays. Gunnar is a military policeman with the 4th Infantry Division, 4th Brigade Combat Team. His platoon was charged with closing forward operating bases and to provide training to members of the Afghan National Army.
Liberty for this serviceman ends on January 9, 2015, when he returns to his home base at Fort Carson near Colorado Springs, CO. Gunnar’s next assignment will take him to Hawaii in May 2015.
