The Eddystone Recreation Board sponsors the following holiday events:
One week prior to Easter Sunday
All children age 10 and under who live within the Borough are invited to Dom Marion Field to participate in an old-fashioned Easter Egg Hunt. Children are divided into groups before making a dash onto a field filled with treats. Everyone is scrambling to fill their baskets with candy, but only a few will be lucky enough to find those special eggs filled with cash prizes. Before leaving the event, every child is given a congratulatory high-five from the Bunny along with an opportunity for a photo.
Sunday before Memorial Day
Decorated bikes and strollers; baseball/softball teams; marching bands; and emergency vehicles all gather at 12:00 noon to begin our annual parade to the Memorial Monument at 12th Street and Saville Avenue. A ceremony to honor those who have served our country includes the presentation of colors; a prayer for the fallen; essays delivered by our 5th grade students; the playing of taps; and a gun salute. Festivities continue during the day as hot-dogs are provided to all residents. Children spend the afternoon playing in the moon-bounces; pony rides; dunk-tanks; and face painting. Festivities end that evening with a fireworks display.
Second Saturday in December
After a ride through town on the fire truck, Santa settles in at Lighthouse Hall to greet all children age 10 and under who live within the Borough. Everyone enjoys hot chocolate and candy canes while standing in line waiting for a photo and an opportunity to share your Christmas wish. Veterans from our American Legion Post 844 and Veterans of Foreign War Post 7949 assist with the distribution of an age-appropriate gift to all children in attendance.
